In Memory of YOU: A Storytelling Tribute to the Living and the Dead

Death:OK (Let’s Talk About It) is a day of inspiration, information, and connection taking place October 17, 2015 on the campus of Reed College in Portland, Oregon. As part of an ongoing series profiling our presenters, we’re pleased to introduce you to…

Jason Myers & Stella Maris, presenting “In Memory of YOU: A Storytelling Tribute to the Living and the Dead”

InMemoryOfYouLOGO“In Memory of YOU: A Storytelling Funeral For the Living” is a site-specific nonfiction ceremonial theater experiment. Taking as its departure point the idea of being able to bear witness at one’s own funeral, audience members will be fully immersed in the experience of being at the memorial of someone who was loved dearly. Hosted by Stella Maris from Nomenus/Wolf Creek Sanctuary, and featuring stories and eulogies from local queer artists as they explore the legacies of their friends and former selves, this community-building experiment aims to tenderly explore the beginnings and endings of our relationships to ourselves and each other.

Stella Maris, our host for the evening, is a cauldron-stirring kitchen witch, templekeeper, and community spiritual instigator. Her home is the moist and lovely City of Roses, where she has been building altars and holding circles for the ancestors for nearly 20 years. Directed by Jason Myers, the creator of several successful and long-running nonfiction storytelling experiments for the queer community – namely “Dark Night of the Soul: An Evening of Stand-Up Tragedy,” and “Testify! A Musical Storytelling Revival”.
